My bio

Mindy Upin is originally from the Chicagoland area and received her BFA in Dance from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  Her performance credits include: The Steps on Broadway Repertory Ensemble (Rehearsal Director/member six seasons); Chicago’s Zephyr Dance Company, The Yard’s  Bessie Schönberg Choreographic Residency, NYC’s River-to-River Festival with Monica Bill Barnes, Dance Theater Workshop’s dancenOw/NYC The Festival; Food For Thought at Danspace Project; Nathan Trice/Rituals; Trainor Dance; music videos by Sondre Lerche & Marley Carroll; The Broadway Dance Lab by Broadway choreographer Josh Prince; the musicals State Fair, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Music Man. Mindy choreographed Stephen King High School: The Musical, which premiered at NY’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade and went on to the LA Comedy Festival; The Green Game; as well as numerous original dances shown through New York, Illinois, Maryland, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Together with choreographic partner, Lindsey Kelley, Mindy toured in the 2011-2012 North Carolina Dance Festival, The{Re} Happening Festival, and choreographed, performed, and produced her first full evening of work in both Chicago, IL and Asheville, NC in 2012. Summer 2013, they were also selected as 1 of 4 pieces from the past 10 years of NCDF history to perform in the ADF’s 80th Anniversary Celebration.

In addition, Mindy was recognized by Dance Magazine with an ENews exclusive interview and has been showcased as a style model.  She has had the honor and privilege of working with artists including Aszure Barton, Donald Byrd, Benoit Swan Pouffer, Larry Keigwin, Seán Curran, Monica Bill Barnes, Nathan Trice, Andrea Miller, Cherice Barton, Bill Young, Camille A. Brown, Mark Dendy, Zvi Gotheiner, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Celia Rowlson-Hall, and Cape Town South Africa’s Ikapa Dance Theatre to highlight a few.  Mindy has been a guest teaching artist at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York’s Dance New Amsterdam, Peridance Capezio Center, Hudson Guild for young children and McCarton Center for Developmental Pediatrics; Appalachian State University (NC), Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Lyons Township HS, and Oak Park River Forest HS (IL) and a judge for StarQuest International Dance Competitions.

Currently, Mindy is the Director of Professional Training Programs and on faculty at Steps on Broadway.
