The Ratio of Mindsey to Kelpin

Introducing “The Ratio of Mindsey to Kelpin,” marking the debut evening of work by Mindy Upin and Lindsey Kelley.  Upin, a native of the Chicagoland area, and choreographic partner Kelley, originally from the Florida panhandle are now making quite a name for themselves in New York City and North Carolina, respectively.  The two dancing dynamos will share an evening of new and revisited work at Chicago’s Links Hall, February 10-12, 2012.

Solos will be presented by both ladies including Upin’s “Semi Glitz,” which recently premiered in NYC to rave reviews.  Upin’s spirited and hilarious take on The Supremes 60’s style structure layered atop a modern day Beyoncé-esq flavor was an exciting surprise.  While Kelley’s lithe, seamless, effortless nature shines in “swot.  mug up.  get up.  bone.”  New work by both ladies is sure to please as ideas of friendship, relationship, hardship, effort, and undoubtedly comedy are explored.  Improvisation with text, music, and dancing will also make an appearance in the production as the team, also known as “Tall & Small,” often rely on such spontaneity to keep even each other on her toes.

The duo will also present their crowd favorite “A Tribute and Reflection of the Relationship,” which first premiered at New York’s Danspace Project Food for Thought in 2010, and is currently touring in the 2011-2012 North Carolina Dance Festival.  This endearing duet set to the music of Queen uses combinations of playful, random, and humorous gestural movements paired with impressive, mammoth dancing. The piece is a journey, but of what is either unknown, unfinished, or is simply unimportant to define.  This investigation, however, drives the team to continue their search to bring the inventive and unexpected to the stage.

Upin and Kelley will carry on their momentum with extensive teaching, creating, and touring with residencies across state lines.  They are looking so forward to sharing their unique artistic voices with Chicago audiences.

Friday and Saturday performances at 8:00 pm, Sunday at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $20 general admission, $12 students/seniors.  Tickets available at the door or through

Links Hall   3435 N. Sheffield Ave, Suite 207    Chicago, IL 60657
